8-Inch Water Main Installation Starts Monday

[new!] Installation of an 8-inch water main on Calistoga Road is expected to get underway on Monday July 13, just as the 16-inch water main work wraps up. This new pipeline will be installed on Calistoga Road starting at Monte Verde Drive and continuing south to Marit Drive, and is anticipated to be completed by July 24.

If you're wondering why different-sized pipes are needed, the larger 16-inch water main helps move water throughout the City's water system, while the smaller 8-inch water main delivers water directly to nearby homes and businesses. Along this section of Calistoga Road, both water mains run parallel to one another.

As with the 16-inch pipe work, traffic control measures will be in place during the 8-inch main installation, including lane shifts - motorists should expect traffic delays. Please follow all posted construction signage and directions from flaggers on-site. Use extra caution and be sure to watch for trucks, equipment, and work crews.

The flashing red light at the Calistoga Road/Dupont Drive intersection will continue to be in that mode, since the 8-inch water pipeline work will be crossing that location. When approaching a flashing red signal, treat it as a four-way stop. Come to a complete stop, yield to vehicles and pedestrians already in the intersection, and proceed slowly when it is safe to do so. For the safety of work crews, other drivers, and the community, please maintain a slower speed whenever you are in or near the construction area.

Once the 8-inch water main work reaches Dupont Drive (expected mid- to late next week), traffic from Dupont to Calistoga will again be detoured onto Grove Avenue, then Marit Drive and back onto Calistoga. Please respect the neighborhood! Motorists using the detour are reminded to observe posted speed limits while traveling through the surrounding residential streets.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to improve this corridor - we apologize for disruptions and traffic delays this project may be causing.

Project Overview

The Calistoga Road Pavement Rehabilitation & Utility Improvement project will repair and restore approximately 1.1 miles of Calistoga Road using Full Depth Reclamation and mill and fill paving techniques to address worn and deteriorating road conditions.

Improvements will also include adding buffered and protected bike lanes in select locations while maintaining existing bike lanes elsewhere, improvements to bus stop infrastructure, and pedestrian curb ramps upgraded to current ADA standards.

In addition to roadway improvements, the project includes  water and sewer system upgrades, including approximately 7,629 linear feet of water pipe replacement and 1,825 linear feet of sewer pipe replacement.

Construction Notes

As with all large construction projects, there will be unavoidable disruptions to nearby neighbors and to motorists traveling in the area – we apologize in advance for noise, dust, lane closures, traffic delays, and any other impacts or inconveniences. When driving, cycling, or walking in the area, always be aware of construction crews and equipment, flaggers, special signage, slower traffic, and changing roadway conditions. Use an alternate route if possible, and allow for additional time to get to and from your destination.

Typical working hours are 7:00 a.m to 5:30 p.m. During those hours traffic control measures and lane closures may be in effect.

Night work (8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) and weekend work may occur with advance notice.

If you have questions or concerns about this project, send an email to [email protected] or call the project information line at (707) 387-4031.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
